A practice tracker for musicians that works with a smart device on the instrument. Goals, routines and progress stats run on a platform that responds 42% faster and stays online 99.8% of the time.
Client: Tempro
Industry: Music Education & EdTech
Platforms: iOS, Android, Web
Technology: Node.js, MongoDB, React Native
Our role: Backend and cross-platform app development
Result: 99.8% uptime and 42% faster responses
99.8% - the platform stays online almost all the time
42% faster - app response times
2.4× - more musicians using the app at the same time
35% faster - practice stats and screens load
40% fewer - errors in the app

Learning an instrument takes regular practice, but most musicians don’t know how much they actually play or whether they are improving. Tempro created a smart tracker that clips onto the instrument and records practice automatically.
The app had to turn that data into clear goals and progress, keep everything in sync between the device, phone and web, and stay fast as the community grew.
Real practice, not guesses. Practice time had to come from the device, not from memory.
Clear goals. Musicians needed targets and a sense of progress to stay motivated.
Always in sync. Sessions from the tracker had to appear instantly on every screen.
Ready to grow. The platform had to stay fast and stable as more musicians joined.

Connected the Tempro tracker. Musicians pair the Track+Tune device in a few steps, or track practice manually in the app, and can add trackers for several instruments.
Made setup personal. A six-step onboarding asks for the instrument, practice goal, weekly schedule and preferred reminder time.
Set goals and milestones. Musicians choose a time target, see an estimated completion date and unlock milestones as they progress.
Built practice routines. Users create routines from exercises such as scales, chords and arpeggios and track each one.
Showed progress clearly. A 7-day summary, a practice calendar by day, week, month and year, streaks and fun stats show how practice really adds up.
Made practice social. Musicians can add notes and photos to sessions and share them privately, with friends or publicly.
Built a fast, secure backend. One reliable core powers the mobile and web apps and keeps every session in sync in real time.
Built apps for every screen. Mobile apps for iOS and Android, plus responsive web interfaces.

In the first six months, Tempro became faster, more stable and ready for a growing community of musicians.

Tempro is a music practice platform that combines a clip-on practice tracker, Tempro Track+Tune, with mobile and web apps for goals, routines and progress analytics. Time2Launch built the scalable Node.js backend, REST APIs and MongoDB data layer with real-time sync, the React Native mobile apps for iOS and Android, and the web interfaces in React.js and Angular.
Key features include device pairing and manual tracking, multi-instrument support, personalised onboarding, goals and milestones, practice routines, activity calendars and stats, session sharing with media, and Google and Apple sign-in.
The project reflects our experience in React Native app development and web application development for connected devices. Building an app that works with your own hardware? See our custom mobile app development.
