Seafarers spend months away from home, moving from port to port and country to country. Staying in touch with other maritime professionals is hard, and finding useful local information in each new port is even harder.
MM Sailors set out to give seafarers their own social network that travels with them.
Isolation at sea. Crews lose touch with the wider maritime community between contracts.
New port, new place. Seafarers arrive in unfamiliar ports with no local connections.
Generic social apps don’t fit. Mainstream networks aren’t built around ports and ships.
Always on the move. The app had to work for people constantly travelling between countries.
Built a global port directory. More than 8,000 ports worldwide, so seafarers can explore each destination and see who else is there.
Created a social network for seafarers. A dedicated space to build connections, interact with other crew members and grow a professional community beyond their own ship.
Made it location-based. The app follows users from port to port, keeping the community and information relevant wherever they dock.
Built native apps for iOS and Android. Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android and Flutter for shared features, for a fast and reliable experience on every phone.
Designed for life on the move. Simple, practical screens give seafarers quick access to their community even with limited time ashore.

In the first six months, MM Sailors became a meeting place for seafarers in ports around the world.

MM Sailors is a mobile social network for seafarers that connects maritime professionals worldwide through a location-based directory of more than 8,000 ports. Time2Launch developed the iOS and Android apps end to end, using Swift for native iOS, Kotlin for Android and Flutter for cross-platform features.
Key features include a global port directory, a seafarer social network, location-based community features, user profiles and API integrations for port data and geolocation.
The project reflects our experience in iOS and Android app development for niche professional communities. Building a social or community app for a specific industry? See our cross-platform app development.
